That reminds me, how helpful are these machines? A little bit, a lot? Anybody have any experience with them?

Wow, I can't figure that thing out at all. How do you use it? Could you post some pics? Thanks.

The machine is pretty helpful, knowing that you do flexibility exercices and dont restrict yourself to using this one only
You basically do the side split with it and the groin stretch at the same time.
I got the cheap version, because I cant really afford the expensive ones with leather seats.
What you basically do is put those side sticks with the cushions on your ankles, while you pull the one in the middle...

Thanks. That looks very good. I never would have figured that out from the picture in the web catalog. I think I'll have to get one too.

Now that you mention the leather seats...
I went to the page that showed the fancy versions of the device. They look nice, but I prefer something that I can slide under my bed. I think the pvc one might even fit in my luggage when I travel. How long is it? Did you get the pvc or the steel? Is it comfortable enough to use for a long period? I prefer slow, gentle stretching. At my age, it's easy to get injured stretching too aggressively.
I'll try using Google to find the manufacturer. I'd like to know if any of the fancy ones could be folded and slid under a bed.

hey,
i got the metal version, which costs about 20 pound here.
I would not recommend it to travel because it is long
The middle one is about 1 metre or so,and the ones on the sides are about 1.5 metres and it weights about 4-5 killos.
I would recommend you doing stretching on the ground or just stick your leg on an elevated surface.
The machine helps, but it isnt a must :

I think that the machines work super well. I never used one, but I used to date this guy - he was 5'11" , 220 pounds of solid muscle. That guy could drop into the splits like a dallas cowboy chearleader - and do all other sorts of amazing flexible things. He used a leg stretcher.. .I don't think that a big brute like him could have done those things without a seriously good stretching machine

Of course they work, otherwise they wouldnt be selling them by the thousands, I was just telling NEIL P, that if he wants to travel around with it, I would say its a no no.
My opinion though Its just to big to go around with it :

Is it adjustable? The expensive ones come with a crank. How about this one?

I was going to (try to) be funny by posting a picture of one of those torture racks from the middle ages (as "leg-stretching machine"). Loading up Google, I did a search for "rack," then clicked on the Images button. The first pictorial reference that Google supplied for "rack" is this:
