Question

lifting after meals?

hey guys,

i usually lift weights 30 - 45mins after lunch! is this alright? I feel that i've got more energy after lunch...so i thought maybe it's the best time for me to lift weights! But one of my friend told me that it's not good for the body...cause the body is digesting the food...and that it may cause some health problem......

don't think it will cause any health problems, but if you are trying to lean up, i would try working out then eating 30-45 minutes afterwards...the body burns more fat with less food in the tummy

What health problems? Does your friend actually workout? Is he a doctor? You need energy to lift, food is engery, why would you not want to lift after eating. Now i woulnt eat then lift 10 minutes later, but i think 30-45 minutes is plenty of time.

Right and I wouldn't eat a HUGE meal then go lift!
(By huge I mean the THANKSGIVING type where you gotta go put on sweatpants and laydown LOL)

I eat, and then work out 90-120 minutes later.

I've heard that it's best NOT to eat too much before you lift. The reasoning behind it is because your body needs a lot of blood to digest food and this will subtract from the blood it will also need during your more strenous workouts. I would think an hour or so should be enough time though.

It really all depends on what and how much you ate. I'd wait a little longer than that to start my workouts(at least 1 hour).

Khan,

While I've personally had great success with my workouts when I eat after I lift, I have also met successful amateur bodybuilders who've done very well by routinely eating before they lifted.

Just remember that as every individual is unique, you will have to determine which pattern of eating/exercising will work best for you and you alone. I would encourage that you try both methods if you really wish to find out which way will work best for you. In any case, I'm sure that 30-45 minutes after eating is sufficient.
