lotta gym time

Is it bad for my workout to be about 1.5 hours?
I did a lot of exercises last night and it kept me in the gym for awhile. I read about this routine on the net so I am trying it. I heard it packs on the muscle which I soo need right now. I am sore this morning.

Well, the brunt of the adive on this board is towards less volume and less time spent with the weights. I usually spend about 50-70 min in the gym (including cardio). It's been a while since I was in there for an hour-and-a-half and I'm probably considerd a volume trainer around here. I guess it all depends on what kind fo effective time we're talking about. If you have prolonged rest periods, then 90 min might be necessary. If not, then that sound a bit escessive.

I think it's okay. It depends what body parts your doing. For example for me on leg day, I'm sometimes there 2 hours because it's hard and I take alot of breaks and I'm not in a hurry. 1.5 hours once or twice a week is fine I think but not all the time because maybe you'll get sick of the gym easier.

Hmmm...it depends on how you are with keeping your intensity up over that amount of time. It has been said that...

"you can work out hard and you can work out long but you can't work out hard for long"

i usaullly work out for 2 hours. i do high reps with lighter weight and really work up a sweat. it depends on how much of shape you are in. if you have good cardio endurance you should be able to pull it off but if you don't have that good of cario endurance i would either build it up more or not lift as long. also take about 3-5 minute breaks in between each exercise.

I prefer to get in and out, maintaining a relatively high heart rate. If I'm in the gym for 1˝ hours, then I feel that I'm draggin' my feet and am not properly applying myself. I always record my start and stop times.

teenpumper...I am not saying that I can't work out for that long...I am saying that when people are using heavy weights for building mass that their workout will be shorter in duration or else lacking in intensity. For sure, what you do is going to get great results...but not 'mass' results. That's what I was talkin about.

cursor, one question. Do you sit and rest between sets? Or do you switch over to a different exercise targeting a different muscle to keep your heart rate up?

I used to, fengalon—not much anymore. I push through the workout, stretching when I feel I need to, and pausing momentarily if I feel that I just can't give the next lift much real effort. I like the shorter workouts—they are more condensed and intense, there's no question about it.
