It all depends on how hard your working! Not the bike itself but you . . .You need to be aware of where your heart rate is at and make sure you keep it elevated but assuming the fafore mentioned itmes you should be in good shape to lose some weight
Mountain Biking can be a great workout if you hit some hilly trails. Just cruising on a flat street or flat doubletrack trail along some train tracks will be a nice ride, but not much in terms of high-intensity.
Hit the hills and you'll feel it. Have fun, and wear a helmet!!! I wouldn't have the left side of my head were it not for a helmet.
Ya I do some hit up some trails when I go out(there are some really nice trails about a mile away from my door step) I mix it up though too like half my time I hit the trails the other half I hit the city. Thanks for your replys.
I love to bike, it's as good a workout as you make it. And hell of a lot easier on the joints.....besides running is for them pretty-boy fitness mag models you wanna go on some hardcore bike trails like has been said.....wow
Now you're talking! The bike is my favorite cardio by far. You can lose just as much fat with the mountain bike as you can running if the effort level is there. Keep the rpms up-try for 85-90 per minute. That will help keep the intensity and moderate the pressure on the knees.
Of course if you're lucky like me and have a nice treadmill that absorbs the shock when you run and is in doors with air conditioning lol. Anyways, i have never really biked for exercise i always had a schwin that i just rode for fun and tricks but never thought of it as cardio.

I went for a 2hour ride today drove to this GIANT nature trail/park and I hit the trails there the odometer said I road for 16..2 miles.....the woods were so humid and I was drenched in sweat I feel like I cant move! but I think I like this feeling cause it feels like I did somthing good for my body for once.
I have a mountain bike and go out every other day. I also like to get out and run tho. I find biking is just as good as running. Altho there are days that I would rather run.
