Muay Thai
Does anyone practice Muay Thai? I am very interested in this art/sport. I'm looking for a little more cardiovascular activity and a little more full-contact than your run of the mill TKD.
Any good trainers in Chicago?
Thanks!

I do Muay Thai (2x week) along with Brazillian Jui-Jitsu (3x week). It's a more realistic sport for fighting than TKD. You'd like it. Great cardio workout also. Look for a mixed martial arts school.

Muay Thai is awsome, but the hardest part is finding an authentic teacher. There are none in my area at all.
At least when i was living in orlando I could take Capoeira. Now that im back in Jacksonville, the only things around here are TKD, Tang Su Do, and classic Karate. I have already taken TKD, Wing Chun and JKD heh. I WANT MY CAPOEIRA BACK!!

It's one of the best arts. Having done both, I like it a lot more than Tae Kwon Do. I'm sure there are some good instructors in the Chicago area.

Good Luck, If you want to do muay thai like they do it in asia, then you won't be having a fun time and thinking "Oh this is such good cardio workout" when you are getting beaten up by sticks on the chins or arms.
Be Sure not to confuse muay thai or kickboxing, because they are totally different.
Good luck getting bruised

My flatmate is doing Muay Thai, is going to be getting into BJJ, and eventually maybe Vale Tudo, or checking out another MA. He loves it, it's a far more realistic fighting style for where we live.
Jakanden: While we're on MA discussion, what can you tell me about Wing Chun having done it? I posted a while back about wanting to start TKD, but after hearing from other people I'm warming up to WC. What're your thoughts? Also, the same on Capoeira would be good, I've been offered lessons from a Brazilian instructor here.

Muay Thai is great. It's good for fitness or self-defense.
Wing Chun is cool too. It's range is short but I found that it actually compliments my fighting when sparring in Muay Thai or MMA.

Well Im not exactly what you mean by "Authentic" but I understand that in many martial arts the line of teachers is important. You will find a great place to learn at this dojo . My brother takes a combination of classes including American (I dont know what else to call it) Kickboxing as well as Muay Thai and Brazillian grappling.. sounds like "jiu jitzu" sorry if I butchered the spelling.
Long post short - there are places in OC. Go check them out.
