Anything that doesn't calm you down, you want to try and keep your heart rate up. Also, I try not to listen to anything I can sing along to too much, I tend not to focus on my lifts if I'm singing or humming along to something.

I listen to System of a Down, and alot of techno, or foreign rock bands because I can't sing along to them at all. 113 is a french rapper and he's pretty good.

Some of my favorites are:

Believe (Franka Potente from the Run Lola Run soundtrack)

Beds are Burning (Midnight Oil)

Another One Bites the Dust (Queen)

Feel Good, Inc. (Gorillaz)

Hitchin' a Ride (Green Day)

Destroyer (The Kinks)

Juicebox (The Strokes)

Funkytown (Lipps, Inc. - LOL at this one but it just works!)

Tell Her Tonight (Franz Ferdinand)

workout tracks

Bad Boy Bill, Richard Humpty Vision, gets me so motivated I don't even notice how many sets I have to go or anything(as opposed to looking at the clock every 30 seconds, thinking about the 8 diferent exercises I still have to do, etc.)

I think I would drop the weight on my head with these, lol, jk. Different generation is all.. I usually need stuff fast paced. SometimesI will use angry music sometime techno, or just rock.

Linkin Park is pretty great for workouts. Never fails to make me do one more set or rep beyond my breaking points. Also very good for hardcore Gorilla cardio. Just take your favorite genre of music and pick out the fast pace ones.

OK I'm an odd-ball here. I do not listen to music when training. I like the music of my racing HR, pounding against my chest like a drummer, mixed with the sound of my controlled but heavy breathing like a group of trumpeteers, mixed together for my own version of a fitness symphony.

That music sounds better the closer I am to the finish of my workout, particularly a hard run.

I agree with you on this one, pierini... I've never excercised with music before, and don't think I will in the near future... Working out, for me, is a very medidative process, and music would interrupt that.

OK- I'm passionate about this- I joined the forum so I could post an answer to this question. I am a huge music fan, and I just started running about a year ago (although I've been weight training for several years).

I use an iPod, and I've got a number of different "Playlists" depending upon my mood. My most common mood calls for heavy metal- it helps keep my rhythm up. The list changes from time to time, but some recent additions are: Tool- "Vicarious"; Coheed & Cambria- "The Suffering"; Disturbed- "Stricken"; Dream Theater- "Pull Me Under"; Earshot- "Headstrong"; Franz Ferdinand- "Take Me Out"; Linkin Park- "Breaking the Habit"; System of a Down- "Question!".

Suggestion

I have found a site that has playlists grouped according to exercise type. There are both member submitted lists and playlists made up by professional trianers. I really like Jazz, and I found one on there to do my aerobics workout to. Its championo2cool.com.

You ask what type of music to listen and I will say anything rap or rap-metal, ie. Linkin Park, Korn, NERD, T.I., Chamillionaire, Dem Franchize Boyz, D4L, Incubus (New Skin). Pretty much that sums it up. More will be revealed.
