Need Advice

Hi All,

I'm 25 5'8" and 196lbs, i'm trying to lose about 20lbs. So far I use a stationary bike for about 30mins(16 miles), about 150 crunches, and 100 jumping jacks 3 to 4 times a week. I can't run due to a job related injury to my back about a year ago and running makes it hurt bad. In my job I need to be in good shape and working out also can get rid of the everyday stress. I eat healthy and several small meals over the course of the day. I also drink lots of water. All I have at the house is a stationary bike, a weight bench, and dumbells. Any advice/suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks in advance.

Nick

Hi and welcome to Discuss Fitness. I think there are some bodyweight training programs, that some of our members prefer, that would suit you well.

Are you making progress doing what you are doing right now?

You'll never go wrong with pushups.

I recommend you integrate BW exercises using a superset format that you blitz through multiple rounds, trying to complete as many rounds as you can within a fixed time period, for example 10, 15, 20, 25, or 30 minutes depending on how much you you have available and your current fitness level.

Let me suggest the following simple circuit. Try 10-15 minutes in the morning and 10-15 minutes in the evening, 5 days a week.

10 pushups, 10 BW squats and 10 situps = 1 round. Complete as many rounds as you can within your designated workout period, the more the better.

If these rep numbers do not match your current fitness, modify them.

For more ideas, hang around the Online Journal and see what others are doing.

Keep us posted how you are doing. Have a great day!

I am making progress I started at 200lbs 3 wks ago and now im down to 196lbs. I would like to work out partly in the morning but I get up at 430am for work and get home at 4pm. So usually the only time I get to workout is in the late afternoon/night. Thank you for your imput and I will keep looking at other topics too.
