need cardio advice

Does anyone have any suggestions for burning max calories (i.e. cardio) without using your legs?
I was in a car accident in April and I broke my right leg in 6 places so Im at no weight bearing for at least another 2-3 months and I'm in a cast so swimming is also out.

speed bag workout for upper body cardio

You might consider using the speed bag for upper body workouts. It takes a little skill, but continous punching can really get your heart rate up as well as burn/cut those shoulders.

Here are a few online demos.

Speed Bag Punching

and it can also be used with music

here is a website that can show you how to focus a speed bag workout for cardio endurance

hope this helps. Good luck with your legs and recovery.

A heavyhands workout without the walking comes to mind. With light dumbells in hand (depending on your fitness - 2 lb. to 5 lb. dumbells) and I guess, in your case, sitting perform a heavyhands workout by pumping the dumbells in various movements, changing the movement every minute. If you are really a beginner, you may not be able to handle even the lightest dumbells in which case your hand movements would suffice.

I use a 7-movement medley with each movement lasting one minute. Check out the heavyhands website for more detail. I believe it is www.heavyhands.com

You'll get your heart rate the highest when you are performing double overhead presses at the same time.
