Why wait for more weight. When you can curl 52.5 lbs per arm, then worry about it.

I've tried them they are the only way to go. Why have a full array if you can just have one. They take up a lot less space.

PS: They are made by Nautlius.

Because, if you decide to use them for bench press, shrugs, incline, or pretty much anything that isn't a curl...they aren't going to be useful. I've seen 'em, and my only gripe is they have about half as much weight as they need. That and they cost $399...I'd rather just buy a bench press and a full set of weights.

You can also just buy two dumbbell handles and the weights that you add on to them, less convenient but a lot cheaper. Also provides similar space efficiency.

As it stands now, I'd be hard pressed to find a good way to use these beyond curling exercises, and that would hardly entice me to put $400 into them.

I've seen the Power Blocks and other 'selectorized' dumbells and honeslty, they felt very awkward. The Bowflex ones look a little better in shape and might easier but again, only 52.5 pounds isn't gonna cut it. I like the selectable aspect but i'm with Cort, spend half as much and get 2 Db handles and plates.

I have the power blocks and I like them. I have the pro kit so the initial weight is up to 45 lbs and the add on kits can get to 120 each. I don't think I will get to that point since I have never benched more than 40lbs each and that was many years ago.

Living in a condominium you have to conserve space.

I guess I assumed that he would buy dumbbells AND a barbell set. Because, yes, you can't do heavy squats, deadlifts, etc. with just dumbbells. If I were to do it again, I would buy those dumbbells instead of an array or various sizes. The prices are going to be about the same.

In years to come, you'll be able to issue a voice command: "61.3-lbs, please."

I agree, but you don't even need the array. They have dumb bells that are similar to barbells where you just load the weights on, secure them, and curl. I agree that these are more efficient, but you can come out spending less than $100, and have weights that are usable both on your dumb bells, but also your barbell. There's no reason to buy $400 dumbbells if you're only going to be curling them, or even a full array of them.

I like the efficiency, but even if I had the money to throw into them I probably wouldn't. I can see a gym trying to use them as space-savers...but they're going to have to buy a few pairs so one set isn't always being hogged by someone...and then they're going to have their big guys who want them to have 120 lb dumbbells.

I also wouldn't purchase a full array unless there were going to be a lot of people using them, generally if its just one or two people you aren't going to need half of them.

Wouldn't be suprised...probably going to have to enter the numbers in via a pad first though...at least until they can make voice commands work better than they do now : *me tryin to call my bro on my cell* "DAVID. No not Dad. DAVID!. NOOO no Gino. D-A-V-I-D...." *dials the number by hand instead.*

They are pretty sweet...if I had a home gym I may look into them...but for $399 I don't know...I might just go and buy a set I have to change every exercise for $50...but they are pretty sweet...

I personally own the Pro Rexan 5-85 lb set and think that they are very good. I can only bench the 85s not curl them, though.
