One-handed exercise

I've noticed that many of the oldtime strongmen did a lot of one-handed lifts with dumbells. I prefer dumbells as they allow my hands to move more naturally. With bars whether barbells or pullup bars the hands cannot rotate. Of course pullups with rings are good.
A favourite exercise has become a slow single dumbell squat, clean & press. It works my obliques as well as my back and I feel the sequence of muscles being engaged as I move slowly.

Dumbbells are great. Why not use a pair of them when doing single dumbbell squats. Make sure that they're heavy enough to be challenging for the rep-range that you're targeting.

Both single dumbell and both dumbell exercises should be done but singles pull into play different sets of muscles for stability when the weight is concentrated more to one side of the body (ie. obliques, sarratus).
