Problem: Kneecap

After starting a regular jogging routine, I noticed that I'd have a bit of discomfort behind my kneecap. Now it's recently developed into a sharp discomfort behind the kneecap when I extend my leg out fully. Was wondering if anyone else had experienced this or had some tips?

knee problems are common. Go see a doctor.

I stopped by my doctor's office this afternoon. He tells me to (1) take it easy, (2) take some pain reliever, and (3) lose some weight. Um, ok. Perhaps someone knows how/why it happens?

No, it doesn't burn. Just a sharp discomfort for me when I fully extend my leg and put pressure on it.

How heavy are you? If you're too heavy, quit running. Running will beat the hell out of your knees. IT's bad enough when you're LIGHT let alone carrying extra fat around.

I weigh 250lbs, so maybe that's it. But then, what exercise should I do in place of running? Running was nice because you don't need a gym membership to do it.

Punching bags make for good cardio, but that'll run you like 100 bucks or so, and you need somewhere to hang it. Seriously though, anything that gets your heart rate up. Jumping jacks, DDR (for the fit geeks,) intense aerobic videos, tae bo.

I wouldn't bother with running to much, i only do it every now and again cos it was making my knees hurt which is not something you want at 18. Instead try a exercise bike or an eliptical cross trainer thingy. As cort said punch bags are good but you dont want to use them too much because they can cause stress on the old joints. I surpose somthing like a stairmaster would also me good but i have never tried one. Your best off sticking to low impact cardio to prevent injuries. If you continue to run you will make it worse
