is it better to jog a mile for 12 minutes or fast-walk ( really slow jog) for 20-25 minutes?

in my opinion its better to jog for 12 minutes rather than fast-walk for 20 minutes or so but thats jsut my opinion and i have no science to back up my opinion. it may also depend on your goals

If caloric expenditure is your goal walking can be effective but jogging will be better in terms of kcal/min. I think you can run for 30 minutes without stopping if you pace yourself properly - I've had obese subjects jog for over an hour - it's just a matter of not going too fast.
That said if you prefer walking I say stick with it - there's no point doing something you don't like. Alternatively, try jogging 12 mins and walking the rest??

its not that bad, could you have done it in faster if you ran your fastest? anyway that doesn't matter that much. what matters most is whether or not you're making progress. you'll get results if you keep working at it. so just stick with it and eventually you'll be outrunning your friends!

OK, so when you posted your first message, you could do 12 minutes. Now you can do 14 minutes. Keep on at it, go for 16 minutes, then 18, 20, etc. Set yourself a goal and work for it. I could barely run to the bar for last orders a few months ago and now I do 10-12 miles straight off!
Just keep pushing yourself, running really is one of these 'mind over matter' type things.

The idea is to work at it until you can jog for 30 minutes , fast walking wont get you to that point or build much endurance.
