Running for Leg Workouts

Does anyone know what kinda of a workout a good jog/run will give the legs? Right now I'm staying away from working the legs while I'm losing fat, so that they're not sore for my run, but I've noticed that sometimes they feel as though they've had a workout all the same. Will running to much for the entire leg, or leg in parts?

Running is good if you want to lose fat, you may want to do a search on gorilla cardio, it may inturest you. Running however will do nothing to bulk up your legs and squats are a key part of putting on size so as long as your arn't trying to get big I guess you can choose to not lift your legs, but if size is what you want lifting the legs is a must.

So what are your goals? I know you said you want to lose fat, but so does everyone else so basically what will help poeple help you is if you know what kind of look you want. Is it the marathon runner look, football player. Once you establish a goal then you can build a routine to achieve that goal. Good luck in your endevors whatever they are

Running wont build much muscle...and it doesn't do much for your ass either

How far do you run? How hard? How many days a week?

To be short running wont bulk up your legs at all (and unless you do a lot of sprints it wont help your butt much either)...

I've also noticed that I get a far better cardio workout on the stairmaster...hell doing dead cleans gives me a good cardio workout too. I spent last week recovering from a charity run I did so I didn't run at all but I usually run 3-4 miles a few days a week, and still manage a good leg workout once a week as well.

I'm quite happy with the size of my legs I guess, I think they'll look good and in proportion once the rest of me is in shape.

My goals -

Lose the bodyfat, possibly down to around the 10% mark or lower. I'm not aiming at amazing definition, I want to see some abs and some toning, but not look like Arnold, if you know what I mean.

I'm running a 6 mile run 2-3 times a week, but I'm gonna switch to Guerilla Cardio, I'm very keen on it. I always run before breakfast.

Lifting - I've been pretty slack with the whole thing, because of various commitments, but I'm trying to hit all the main parts minus the legs 2-3 times a week. I find that working the legs makes it difficult to get out and do cardio, and also doesn't help with the work I do.

I've also got a fairly decent diet, I'll need to sit down and work it all out in P/C/F amounts, but I'm aiming at around a 40/40/20 % balance of Prot/Carb/Fat.

If it's any difference, I'm 21, 183cm tall, 90kg in weight.

It's probably a mistake to eliminate leg work. Lifting isn't just for getting big muscles. When you work the legs hard while lifitng you elicit hormonal changes that favor fat loss and muscle retention. You want this while you are eating a below-maintenance level diet. You'll get partial benefit by doing upper body lifting but nothing can replace the contribution that lower body work adds.

As for guerilla cardio, give it a try. I wouldn't recommend replacing all of your running with it, though. One day a week to start is plenty. Anybody who does more than 2 days of interval work per week on a continuous basis probably isn't doing it right.
