Running in the morning empty stomach...? How effective is it

Ok I have noticed a trend of people asking whether to run in the morning on an empty stomach is good or not? I thought it was bad but people are saying its good? So i have a few questions...

1. Can i run in the morning everyday just to get my metabolism high from the very start of the day and continue to do all my other routines regularly.

2. After working out can i eat? I get hungry really fast and need energy, would this be ok?

Empty Stomach cardio is one of those things that has people who can give good reasons to do and and reasons not to. Both sides have legit points.

I personally respond great to empty stomach cardio. I would do it first thing in the morning and then about an hour after im done, eat a good complex carb/protein breakfast. I know other people who just cant do it, they get sick from trying.

This subject has been debated many many times. I would suggest searching previous posts and you can make your own decision.

Here is a link to get you started =)

If you DO decide to try it, empty stomach means just that, empty stomach. No quick glass of juice when you get up, no coffee, no sunnytime. It means empty.

I'd also try low to moderate intensity, like speed walking, jogging, or jog-run, but I'd avoid HIIT (which another factor all together).

Being new to this, give your body time to adapt and respond....don't go all out right out of the gates.

I would only recommend this if you were overweight and just wanted to lose weight.

I think this is good advice for everything you start whether it's cardio or weight training.

very effective. i saw results the first day i saw resultts (i did 1.5 hours of stair stepper) make sure you drink a lot of water because you haven't had anything to drink for 8 or so hours so you don't get dehydrated

What "results" do you see after one day of any sort of training?

Exhaustion, dehrydartion? Not really the type of results your lookin for.

Teenpumper:

How come your doing cardio for such long periods of time unless your lookin to shred some lean muscle mass? You may want to look at modifying your cardio to some sort of HIIT routine or keep it to a 30 minute max.

Back to the original question:

Just to clarify, can you drink water before doing the morning cardio or does it need to be a totally empty stomach? I was thinking of biking in the morning...

Yep, always stay hydrated.

Empty stomach, however, means primarily carb-depleted.

Drinking coffee which contains caffeine will dehydrate you and interrupt your blood sugar.

Eating breakfast, cereal, fruit, juice, etc., -- it's all laden with carbs, and it defeats the purpose of doing your cardio on an "empty stomach."
