Running question

Whenever I go for a run at the gym, I find that I slowly progress to about 6-7mph, of the course of about 20 minutes, then go all out until I'm nearly exhausted, then cool down. It's a great strees releiver

My question is, If I cool down, and then start to build momentum back up to go for another round, would that be detrimental? I don't know if the heart rate fluctutation from high to mid-high back to being high again would actually do more harm than good.

Thanks for any input.

That is no problem. Look at it as a type of interval training.

In fact, why not do just what MostMuscle is saying? Do a warmup jog, then alternate 30 seconds at 7 mph with 30 seconds at 5 mph. Do it for as long as you can. It's a great form of cardio training.

As has already been said there is no harm to it and many people train like that. It depends on what your goal for your running is.

I warm-up at 6 mph and keep it as my base. After 1 minute 1 to 1:15 I do 1 minute at a faster time then I come back to 1 to 1:15 minutes of cool down at my base of 6 mph again. I continue this for 15 to 20 minutes raising my sprints to up to 1 minute at 9 mph. You can also mix in some inclines as well. But lower your speed as the inclines degrees are increased. Then come back to flat after 1 minute of increased incline. Intervals are known to keep your metabolism up hours after exercising, regular jogging at the same speed and incline do not.
