Shoulder pain from racquetball

Does anyone else get this? Will it go away? Am I using improper form? 20 min into a match I can feel my shoulder achin, and it's not the muscle, feels more like the joint. I just started playing.

just curious if you are warming up your shoulders before you go into playing raquetball?

Hi Dressed4it,

Most of your power should come from the hips. Your hips pull your shoulder around.

If you are having shoulder injuries, make sure your shoulders are square by keeping the tops of your deltoids down, your shoulder blades pressed in, and pointing your elbows at a ball in front of you.

Also, keep in mind that racquetball swing should be easy and graceful swing even the hardest hitting shots.

Laura, thanks for the tips. As I suspected, I am going about the swing all wrong--directing the majority of power from my shoulder and a small amount from the wrist.

Gymgirl, no, now that I think about it, I haven't really been doing any kind of stretches or warm up before playing. Any advice on what I should be doing to warm up? I always stretch before n after lifting weight, but sports are a relatively new interest for me, so I never really think about stretching for anything besides weight lifting.

i never thought about stretching much either, and now i am paying for it! pierini was kind enough to post his shoulder warm-up that he does before lifting...you could try some or all of this warm-up to get the blood flowing, and everything loosened up a bit. I've been doing some of his exercises for the past week and find it quite helpful.

you can check it out here: http://www.discussfitness.com/forums...t=34684&page=2

good luck and hope you are feeling better soon.
