While I agree that there are cheap plastic versions of calipers available, digital calipers are not as accurate as manual measurements taken by a skilled person with reliable equipment (lange/harpenden)

Correct - The plastic Slimguide caliper is capable of all the thickness measuring accuracy anybody could ever need. Whether that translates to body fat measurement accuracy is another matter altogether.

Does anyone know the exact areas to measure with skin calipers? I looked around but see so many different versions. And does anyone know the equation for figuring things out?

You can find a good general one on my spreadsheet available for premier members, it gives you 3 simple areas and does the calculations for you - I lost my favourites but someone will have one probably.

There are many different equations using various skin-fold sites. I generally use the 7 site method.

Here is a link to body-fat/body-density equations based on 4 sites that may be useful.
