Doing 100 crunches is a waste of time... your abdominal muscles are just like any other muscles in your body so you don't need to treat them any differently... What Cort says basically sums it up... but there are more muscles than just the abdominals to "the core"... (but I won't go into that since this is not what the topic is about) :

Try some weighted exercises for your abs. Hanging hip curls are great — especially if you strap on some ankle weights). Also consider doing some of my cap'n crunch exercises.

Unlike Sean Phillips' recommendation in ABSolution, daily abdominal exercises is not required (at least not in my book).
