So... Who else likes step?
I love it.
But, I didn't start liking it until I took a step class by mistake. I never liked that little "box," but boy -- after that class, I couldn't wait till the next one!
Just want to know if anyone else here likes step.

Is this where you climb varioius combinations of stackable boxes? If so, I did it when rehabbing my knee after ACL surgery. Can't say it was fun though.

Yep, that's it. That's understandable that you didn't like it though -- not many guys do!

I climb steps at the local park as part of my HIIT routine. An awesome workout and an even better high.

I prefer to watch
Melissa the nazi does that class and frankly circuit class is hard enough. I'll probably try it one day and maybe the barbell one but unfortunately I'm rather unco. If I think of more excuses I'll let you know

LOL ;p
I actually like being pushed. I once took a class that was a mix of step and bootcamp. I felt like my heart would pop out of my chest! My heart rate monitor told me I burned 900+ calories that one night! Oh, but it was sooo much fun . . .

Steps are great for the buns.
Use the stair mill (not the stepper), taking 2 steps at a time. Done right (ie: don't hold on tightly to the arm rails, and try very hard to keep yourself vertical, not leaning forward for balance, and be very deliberate in your stepping, going SLOW enough to step UP not rush yourself forward), you can really feel it deep in the glutes.
I'm not a fan of classes in general, so I can't comment with any degree of accuracy.
I'm also not a fan of just doing "steps" -- but with a barbell across my shoulders or DB's in my hands, stepping UP onto a HIGH step or bench, one leg at a time, like a lunge,.....then repeat with the other leg,....that's good stuff.
Rehab is never fun. I was fortunate to have a pretty good therapist, but they get nasty when it comes to getting you to try and make it up and down that little wooden stair contraption.

Oh Gosh! You mean your not suppose to suspend your weight on the arm rails while stepping like most of the people at my Gym??? What is that, a weird version of a tricep dip or something?
OK I hate that machine anyway but, necessary evil. I chose to do the stairs at work (7 flights) on my big wopping 10 minute break. I am working my way up to twice in 10.

The point is, if you suspend your weight on arm rails, such as on a stepper or going up a stairmill, then your butt isn't doing the work, your legs are getting a fraction of the workout, and you're using your upper body to hold you, suspend you, and support you, and pull you up.
It defeats the purpose.
