Stationary and running

Hi I'm new here!

I have a simple question: if you run 2 miles on a stationary, can you run 2 miles actually running? And if you run 2 miles running, is it the same on a stationary?

Or do you run less or more in one or the other? I run outside, I don't really use a stationary, so I'm wondering if I run 2 miles normally, would I be able to run more or less on a stationary (for the purposes of this question, basically no incline). Thanx.

I'm glad you asked that because I have pretty much the same question. Anyone have any ideas?

I think pierini is the resident running GURU, he'll have something to say I'm sure.

I know I run a little farther when I run "for real", I can pick a spot ahead & shoot for that v. thumping away on a treadmill looking at the same spot on the wall.

I'm considering a new signature, how's this...

"Gunning for a 1 mile run."

Running tends to be physically easier (and mentally harder due the the boredom) than running in the "real world". On a treadmill you don't have to deal with hills, headwinds, rocks, dogs, bugs, or ice. A good way to approximate real-world conditions is to run at a 1 or 2% incline, or set the treadmill to "random" incline, if you have that capability.
