swimming and weight lifting

[size=5][color=Navy][font=Arial]

Hi

I do swimming four days a week and I also lift dumbells and use a chin up bar every tuesday, thursday and saturday. Is it okay to be doing both? perhaps sometimes on the same day. I've read that it can't give the desired effect if you do both, can anyone help me? :confused:

Well, that depends a lot on exactly what you mean by 'desired effect'.

If you're primarily interested in bodybuilding/muscle growth then excessive cardio work could conceivably (though not necessarily) cut into your muscle gains.

If, on the other hand, your desired effects have more to do with overall health and fitness a mix of cardio and resistance training is not only allowed, it's downright necessary. Cardio and resistance training each offer significant health and fitness benefits that the other lacks and any long-term exercise regimen should absolutely include both.

swimming and lifting weights

What I meant by 'desired effect' was, I want to be able to lifting weights and see improvment in them. I was worried that if I do swimming it might not work as fast.

Also I wanted to know that if I did both would it affect me in any way at all?

Do the lifting before the swimming if it's possible

What if I swam in the morning around eight o' clock and then lift in the afternoon, say six o'clock?
