swimming laps

Today I went to swim laps or kick laps. I can swim, but I'm not that graceful looking so I stick with the kick board and do kick laps.
I don't know how far I went, but I went for 30 minutes. I'm not talking nice relaxing kicks, but I was pushing it. It was great! Marines doing laps on both sides of me and there I was with my kick board.
Well, about time to go so I get out and THATS when I felt it. My legs felt like jelly! I loved that work out! I'd do laps any day over running, but my legs felt like they ran. I have slight exercise induced asthma so running is really hard on me, but I got the same benefit from doing laps.
I hope I can do it again real soon!

Most definitely, it's excellent! We have a pool where we live and a few of the people here use kickboards as well, (I think a few of them are doing rehab, however).

I remember doing them when I used to be in Swim at the YMCA. For anyone who thinks just because you're using a kickboard it must be half as hard, bwahaha, no way! They're tough!

Way to go! And you got double the FUN because you were in the best company! OOORAH!

Yeah, I feel sorta wimpy using my kickboard. I'm just not ready to do the breast stroke and look like a fool when I've got graceful swimmers all around me. I can't do the free style b/c of a really bad shoulder that likes to pop out of socket.
They make it look so easy. Even my 9 year old daugher is an excellent swimmer, due to summer after summer of lessons since she was 4 years old. Her technique is outstanding and she actually looks relaxed too.
Yes, I was in very good company As Jaster would say, "MMMmmmMMM"

I looove swimming.. its a great way to break up the boredom of the gym.. i miss it cause i used to swim in hs.. but i stopped when i hit college.. even with the kickboard it gives ur glutes a nice workout.. i just find that sometimes my feet and ankles get really cramped up from kicking.. i've always learned to kick with my feet pointed... and that tends to tense them up a bit too much..

kick sets are def. very good. i swim in a university in mississippi and in the morn. we do a lot of dryland sets to get our legs worked out. if you find that you dont want to get in the water on certain days do some flutter kicks. lay down flat on your back and raise your legs about five inches off the ground and kick as if you were doing freestyle kick for about two min. then rest 30 sec and repeat. after you feel the burn on that try doing wall sits for about the same amount of time.
