Swimwear and running attire for men

I've recently started a fairly aggressive workout regiment of swimming and running. I'm very comfortable wearing Speedos at the pool and running tights while working out on the machines. What I've noticed is that there aren't many (if at all at times) any men swimming in Speedos. Is there a reaon for this? I mean, most people at the gym I go to (myself included) are physically fit. Why do they torture themselves in those heavy cotton knee lenght shorts? Also, I find it convenient not to constantly change in and out of my running tights, leading me to use the gym apparatuses. Again, I face a similar problem where I again am the only one in tights working out. Why is it that only girls wear tights and Speedos and the guys are so adverse to such workout attire? I'm just hoping for some input as to what others think of my choice of convenience (or lack of vanity). Your input would be valuable in interpreting people's psychology and will not impact my choice of attire and desire for convenience. Thanks in advance.
