Taking accurate Body Fat % readings


Ok, i finally bought a body fat calculator thing, but the thing is every time i use it i get a different percentage. does anyone have any advice on how to get an accurate reading?

Get a trained instructor to measure you BF% using a set of calipers, after several readings you should have an accurate reading.

I like using bio-impedence, -- it takes out the human error factor. Calipers are more highly prone to potential inaccuracies.

However, if you have the same person do it, using the same number of sites, same formula, and routinely check you, then at least you're comparing apples to apples and can track your progress as your body changes.

Merrida's got it right. It's the comparison you're after, not an absolute number that you can print and say "Look everyone, I was at 6% bodyfat!!". It takes time to get accustomed to bodyfat-calipers, it's just like any skill. You didn't get very comfortable in the weight room in a day, did you? Give it some time and work on being consistent.
