Technique

OKay well I was at the gym and doing some barbell curls. I was doing them the same way everyone was but then Mr Muscles came over and told me that I doing them way wrong that I was using more my back. So he told me to put my back against a wall and isolate the movement to my biceps only. WHOA! I had to drop the weight pretty drastically and I felt them so much more. I didnt realize I was doing them incorrectly. So the good thing about a gym is learning the right way to do things.

You're lucky to have a good instructor. Most of the instructors around here are just there to make up the numbers and chat to the women. I don't mind at all - at least they leave me the **** alone, which is , believe me, a blessing.

Yup, placing your back against the wall is a good technique to help better form. Once you get better form from the wall for a while, you won't need it anymore cause you will be use to the right form from what the wall taught you.

Yes! the wall helps me not jerk up the weight. I have to use lighter weight now that I am isolating the bicep by not moving my back at all. About arching your back just put our feet a little out in front of you where your back is flat against the wall. It helps

Seeeee! I know huh. I was curling like 60lbs but then having to do it that way I had to lower it alot and now I really feel the burn in my biceps. It really makes me think that my techinique needs some work on other things.

Also watch your elbows, don't let your elbows rotate up. When that happens movement is coming from the shoulders. You can either keep your elbows against the wall too, or just watch them in the mirror and make sure your upper arm is not moving at all and your elbows are pointing straight down for good bicep isolation.

Amkey thats good he did tell you. Not only will you get better results but you wont hurt your back now trying to "throw" that heavy weight up. Everytime i see this guy who thinks hes arnold comes in the gym and puts all this weight on the BB getting ready to curl , when he goes to curl it he throws his back so much into it hes not even doing a curl ! it makes me laught.
