The Holds PR Thread

I don't know if this thread will go anywhere but I'll give it a try. This is "The Holds PR Thread". I have been doing lots of holds lately because of an injury I have and the holds training doesn't seem to aggravate my injury.

The holds I have been doing are these: (1) handstand hold with feet against the wall for balance - (2) pullup bar hang hold - (3) parallel wall sit hold - and (4) ab plank hold. I believe the pullup bar hang hold is a StrongMan event.

So post your times for anyone of these or any others you come up with. How about an iron cross with 20 lb. dumbells, or even a weighted squat hold in the parallel position. How about standing on one leg with the other leg fully extended forward, or standing on one leg with eyes closed (a balance hold). Any hold is good. Hopefully we will get some participation.

So I will start with mine:

(1) handstand hold feet agains the wall for balance: 1:33 (7/2/2007)

(2) pullup bar hang hold: 2:02 (7/2/2007)

(3) wall sit hold (my weakness): 2:11 (6/14/2007)

(4) ab plank hold: 4:14 (3/6/2007)

I hope we get some action here.

Advanced Tuck Planche - 5 seconds. Finally hit it after going through several transitional variations I made up to progress from a regular tuck planche.

I may well post a video clip if I can borrow a camera. As long as I don't consequently develop an ego problem though. lol

I like your thinking. It is always better to have a piece of humble pie. It's better than a slice of ego cake.

Question - the Pullup hold.. is that with your arms completely bent ie. at the top of the movement, or at 90 degrees?

Hi minime, that's great, your 2:44 ab plank hold. 3:00 is right around the corner. Did you read Jack's journal, the young 13 year old who posts in the Online Journal. He did a 5:00 ab plank the other day. Absolutely amazing.

Hi Dustin, the standard grip pullup hang hold I do is arms fully extended, hanging at the fully-extended position, with only a very slight bend in the elbows, as needed, to ease the strain off my shoulders. Give it a try. Your forearms should be what fails first.
