That's smoking minime, great job. I bet people driving by and seeing you fly like that thought you were dashing to a toilet about to either wet or crap your pants.

hehe i did get some strange looks, storming past people... If somebody gets in my way i get really annoyed! I could lose a second! I had a strong desire to break into a jog many times, i get frustrated by my legs' refusal to go faster

Well since I am not able to run, I'll post this which is a personal best for me since I started walking to work on Tuesday.

8.93 miles walk to work in 2:17:46 (15:26/mile pace).

This was the 4th time I've walked to work. I won't be doing it again for a couple of weeks as I will be working at a client's location for the next 2 Tuesdays.

Early start. Not a lifetime PR but it is one for distance for this year. No time kept. Running with an 11 year old girl.

After a 5 mile bike ride...

Ran 1 mile (couldn't do that a month ago).

Pierini you're not gonna believe this lol.

I just got back from my jog this morning. I ran a mile in 8:24!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 20 second improvement from last Saturday! When i rounded the home stretch i checked the time and was like "OMG I CAN GET MY GOAL OF 8:30!" Early on I almost stopped because I just ran a mile a week ago and was going to do it maybe every other week, but I was going on a very fast pace (for me) early on in the mile and wasn't breathing very hard at all so I slowed the pace a tad and got into rhythm, still going at what I felt was the fastest pace yet for me.

I'm just so happy about this. I seriously never saw myself jogging let alone jogging with any kind of mile time like this. After that mile, i walked for about 5 minutes then started running 2-3 minutes at a time with 1-1.5 minute walk for the next 2.6 miles, total 3.6 miles in 37:59.

Perhaps the most important thing and impressive thing to me about this whole thing, is I've shown myself mental toughness in these long jogging situations. I could have given in to calf pain early on but I didn't, and I continue to push through this. I'm just impressed with myself today. And that says alot considering nothing I do is ever good enough to me lol.

I'm just so happy. I might as well set the next goal...get under 8:15.

Oh yeah, and I was 249 this morning before jogging...YAY out of the 250s!!!! I weigh less than 1/8 ton! Everybody just say YAYYYYYYYYY with me! lol

Hate to disappoint you, but yes I am. I'm not surprised the least bit. Congrats! That is another in a series of great running accomplishments for you. More will follow with a safe and sensible training progression.

Just be careful that everytime you go out you don't try to outdo your previous effort. That will work for a while then backfire on you, just like powerlifting training.

Make sure you spend time working on perfecting your running form, engaging your whole body, pumping your arms, having good leg lift movement, maintaining a forward motion, engaging in correct breathing, all in unison as in perfection. And as you have probably discovered now, a good warmup is very important to safely elevate your heart rate to minimize what I call "heart rate shock", that yukky terrible feeling you experience when you start running that happens because your heart rate was elevated too fast. And do remember to put in a good stretching session afterwards so your hamstrings don't tighten up on you as running has a tendency to do that.

Remember, to run fast you have to train fast so that interval workout I posted for you sometime back is one way to do that. You'll be cracking a sub 8:00 mile before you know.

Keep the pedal to the metal!

p.s. just a matter of time and you'll be calling F-Mac "fat boy"!

Dave,

YAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!:

Very impressive work you are doing. And Mr. P is right. Don't push to your maximum EVERY time you go out. Just work for a very small improvement every week or so.

I don't warm up, mainly because i just want to get right to it, and i go through that shock you talk about everytime as well as very pumped calves. The first half mile is pretty painful. I'm trying to learn to glide more than 'bump' as i run...but itll come with time. Today on the way back i did sprints but they were just 150ft sprints or so, as hard as i coudl,t hen woudl walk 150ft, then run then walk, etc for about 6 or 7 sets...then went back to jogging.

I honestly don't expect to beat my times but when I'm rounding the corner that is exactly 8/10 of a mile and the clock shows that I'm on record pace, naturally i push it the last bit.

I really started off jogging to burn more calories, but this whole 1 mile thing has caught my attention.

If the 1-mile thing has caught your attention, you might be surprised to find that the 800 meters and 400 meters, even the 200 meters, for best effort can be fun and rewarding too. I shocked the crap out of myself when I did a 1:08 400 meters and a 0:30.50 200 meters last summer.
