Me too, gymgirl - I can't put my finger on why, and I'm sure its not a calibration issue. I think perhaps the motion of treadmill that pulls your standing foot backwards causes your body to tilt a little forward, thus forcing a shorter stride length, and reducing your pace.

Well, another PR for me. I just ran 2 miles straight in 17:28. Last time was 19:08 (1st minute was fast walk though).

My first mile was completed in 8:40 which means my second mile was just a tad longer at 8:48 I think (if I did the math right).

I thought I was gonna puke at the end...but it was worth it. And I recovered amazingly fast for running 2 miles that quickly (keep in mind my best 1 mile is 8:24, and I gotta think it's better than that now...) It only took me about 2 minutes to stop my heavy breathing.

EDIT: Oh and one other thing to note. Thursday I checked my resting heart rate at work and it was 58. That is incredible for me. It used to be about 84 back in my obese days, and after comnig off the heart medication it was about 80.

Hi Firehawk,

Reading about your current Saturday morning running accomplishment is becoming a Saturday morning ritual for me.

That's a great 2 mile time and your mile splits is an indication of the steadiness of your running pace. That is efficient for a 2 mile effort, and a great HR workout. I'm also impressed with your 58 bpm resting HR, a good indicator of how much you have improved in the superfitness department. I can't help but think that these efforts are giving your spillover benefit in your other training and lifestyle.

So when are you going to give the 800 meters a try for a best effort, as in pedal to the metal style? I still believe you are capable of a sub 4 minute performance with the proper warmup.

Have a great weekend!

I'm getting anxious to do that 800 meter dash. I want to go to a track for that though. Thanks for the kind words. It was a great jog today.

When i hit the weights now it feels like i'm not doing anything, because it takes alot for me to get any kind of winded.

I consider myself pretty fit in the cardiovascular department, but I'll tell you that when I do a 5x5 of power cleans & push presses with a challenging weight, I get really winded.

Good job Bob. Were those done on a track?

Do you have your mile split times for the 2-mile effort? Any plans to tackle an 800 meter and 400 meter effort?

The mile was on a track, the kind with the soft rubberized type of surface. I think they had someone with old joints in mind when they made it.

The 2 mile run was on local roads with some hills. A combination of dirt and chip and tar roads. The first mile was a little over 7:00 minutes. I don't know exactly where the first mile ended. I measured 2 miles on gps mapping software.

I did do some 400M intervals a couple of weeks ago, but I did not record any of the times. I set a gymboss to beep at set times for 100M intervals.
I'll take paper and pen along and record the time sometime. That is the same method I used for the mile time.

it's all differant, but I must say that the training I've been doing with weights has def. made me a better runner.

I can't say I feel a HUGE carry over from running (relativly speaking) to wind on strongman right now as much as high rep squats, carrying heavy loads has improved at least short distance speeds.

It would be a differnant ballgame for most everyone else, cause remmber for years I was like almost running with 400lbs on the shoulders every week, that only made me faster for very short runs, but with these high rep squats, my wind is alot better for sprints longer and longer.

Great times Bob, particularly the 200 meters after having done the previous stuff. This tells me you are fast-twitch muscle dominated. I bet your 100 meter time is even relatively faster.

We would have some great track workouts together. We'll just have to do it cyberspace style.

Have a great July 4th. And remember to eat your age and not your APPETITE!
