Pierini, I just want to say, I hate you. I hate your guts.

The reason is, because when i woke up this morning, I had no intention to run the 800m. In fact, I had no intention of running a mile or any long distance more than 1 minute would take. But because of your evil powers of speech, it was stuck in my head that "oh, 800m is only about 1/2 a mile, so why not?" LOL

Anyways, my time was 3:47. Problem was, felt like my lungs were on fire at the end. This was my fault though. I didnt' warm up at all, and i was totally out of rhythm the entire run. I started off I bet on a 3 minute pace and then got winded half way there, so I had to actively recover a bit and just tough it out while breathing hard the rest of the way. I never got into any rhythmic breathing pattern and my speed was constantlyl changing. So, i feel while i just wanted to beat 4 minutes, I can do alot better than 3:47. I think I have it in me for a 3:30 time.

Anyway though, I'm beat. I didnt plan to run that much today because i'm feeling worn out and probably shouldn't have run today but what the hell right? I'm done running until Monday now.

By the way, is there a name for when your lungs get on fire after that? LIke runner's wind or somthing like that? Just curious. It took me a good 6 to 7 minutes of walking before my lungs quit hurting so I could go back to short jogs.

bw was 248 today.

::Wow, that's a great run definitely better than I can do. Especially at 248lbs. Isn't that a new low for you too?

Well I guess this middle-age man knows what he is talking about, doesn't he? I knew you could do a sub 4-minute 800 meters and this confirms it.

Your time is absolutely awesome! And you got one efficient workout in and it took less than 5 minutes. But listen to me Big Guy, you do need to warm up and you do need to stretch afterwards.

So keep up what you are doing and don't quit until the fitness miracle is complete. And congrats on your 248 BW reading.

Maybe next time you should do a longer run like another 2 miler. Go back and forth between the longer and shorter distances. Then take a shot at the 400 meters for time the following week. I'm predicting, with a proper warmup, that you'll do a 1:45 first time.

Keep up the great work and you can keep on hating me. I'd like to see a photo of you bent over with your hands on your knees panting like you just ran down a dark alley to escape a bunch of bullies who were chasing after you.

LOL. Well, if i sit down, it's even harder to catch my wind, but maybe i'll take a photo of myself after looking like someone shot me in the damn lung. lol

Yeah 248 is also a new low...the fat is coming off super slow, has ever since i hit 255lbs. I was 246 1/2 after the jogging .

You know, even when i was over 300 lbs i felt like i was still fast for a big guy, just had no endurance. I'd like to think i'd be scary quick if i was under 200lbs, but have no desire to ever find that out lol. So 400m is one track lap correct? I will have to see what I can do with that. SHould be interesting.

Finally, I get to post one for me.

Today I ran 800 meters in 2:44.03 for a PR. My previous best was 2:46.?? (too lazy to look it up but it was 2:46 for sure). The weather was great, I had the right mindset, and I ran a good pace with my first 400 meters completed in 1:18.

I think I can do better on the right day with the right mind and with a cooperating cardiovascular system. We will see in a couple of weeks.

That's like 5 meters a second for the first 400...that's fast dude. That's probably my 100% sprint speed. lol

I'm excited! I just found out that there is a local high school and a community college both hosting a series of all-comers track meets for the remaining weeks in July. One of them actually has field events which is rare for all-comers meets (shot put, long jump, triple jump and even pole vault). All-comers meets are for people of all ages and abilities to compete in track events. I did 3 or 4 meets last summer.

So the current plan is to compete in the 800 meters this Thursday and if everything goes well to compete in the 400 meters and 200 meters the following week. Then I'll have one week remaining. Maybe I'll try the long jump but that is high risk. I could try the shot put. I'd really like to try the high jump but they don't have it.

I'll probably place last in all the events I enter but I don't give a darn. I'm going to have some fun and maybe set a PR or two. It only costs $5 to enter and that includes as many events as you want.

That sounds like fun pierini! And I'm sure you won't finish last when your current PR is 2:44 and you'll probably blow that out of the water on race day!

I find that a good cool down helps with the lungs burning thing. I know when I finish working out hard, I just want to stop right away, but I actually find I catch my breath faster if I cool down.

Another good running day today. I wanted to just run a timed length rather than try for a certain distance. I started this time with a little stretching, then just 3 minutes warmup (I know it's short, i did a little run spurt in there to get my heart rate up a little), then I started my run. I planned to do 3 sets of 10 minutes, with about 4 minute breaks in between. What I ended up doing though was:

I reached 10 minutes, then said "F it ill go for 20 straight minutes", which was a PR length of time for me constantly jogging, then when i got to that, i figured "oh i'd love to reach 30 minutes straight", so I tried to do that. I got 24 minutes into the jog before i had to stop for a minute. My legs were just tired (muscles). My breathing was really good, i never really got out of breath the entire run. So i walked fairly slow for 1 minute, then i started jogging again until I got home which was another 7:49.

I am very pleased. I mapped out my path and when i had to stop, i was just over 2.5 miles straight run (previous best was 2 miles) in 24 minutes, then I am assuming i walked for 1 minute 1/10 of a mile (this is probably figuring on the high side), and then i jogged another 0.8 miles to get home which took 7:49. Total was about 3.45 miles or so.

I am really happy with this. Last night my resting heart rate was 56-58 bpm. Total workout time today was 32:49

Hey, Firehawk posted on this thread, that means it must be Saturday. Don't have to go to work today!

Nice run and post again, I really enjoy reading them. I like the resting HR detail. Proof is in the pudding.

You know, your posts have done more to spark new interest in running here at DF than anything I have been posting for years. Heck, Greg even went out and ran 1.5 miles the other day. I think he is feeling a little pressure from you.

I'm almost reading that you may be enjoying this running stuff. What do your powerlifting buddies think about you?

You may be a 5k fun run candidate in a couple of months. They are alot of fun. And if you pick the right run, you'll get the treat of your life with some great "eye candy" to motivate you to run a little harder to keep up and stay with eyeing sight.

Still looking forward to you tackling a 400 meter run for time. I'd like to see you do a track workout where you do 3 rounds of maximum effort 400 meters for time, taking a full 400 meter recovery walking between rounds.

Keep it up. Your heart and lungs have probably never been healthier.

Have a great weekend!

Yeah man I'm enjoying the running. Having to be on a calorie restricted diet, the only PR's i've been hitting lately are from running, and we all know when you see progress it only motivates you. Today was maybe the most challenging run mentally as well. Several times i wanted to quit. At times i was yelling at myself out loud to keep going. Just part of it I guess.

Maybe I'll try the 3 sets of 400m thing soon. Saturdays I generally do something to try to hit some kind of PR...but i still go out jogging/walking monday, thursday, and friday, or pick one of those days to have off (usually monday).

I'd like to test a 1-mile again soon, maybe try to get under 8 minutes.

Good old-fashioned hard work is paying off man.

My power lifting buddies dont' really know, unless they are reading this site, that I have been doing all this jogging. I don't think they'd approve. I posted the 8:24 mile I ran a few weeks ago in my journal and someone said "nice squat workout" LMFAO. It's fine. It's nice to know i could probably outrun 95% of them right now and I'm heavier than all of the ones that I know can run 2.5 miles without dying. At least I can hang with them in some fashion, since I'm weak as hell compared to them lol.
