Toes get numb on elliptical... why?

I've noticed that after about 30 minutes on the elliptical, the three outer toes on my right foot start to feel a little numb. I've never had this problem on the stair stepper (done up to an hour at a time) or when on the treadmill (used up to 2 hours at a time)

I have a pair of shoes (crosstrainers I think) that i use ONLY for my cardio workouts on all three machines.

I'm wondering if I should get my shoes checked out and get new ones? or if I just need to change my stride or the way I shift my weight on the elliptical or place my feet? I'm curious since I've never had this problem on any other equipment.

Any suggestions or ideas?

sounds like instead of driving the elliptical with your heels, you're "scooting" it with your toes.

I've had the same problem on my elliptical. Poor circulation in the feet seems to run in my family though, so I've always blamed it on that.

shift the balance onto your heels and drive down through your leg bones - see if that helps. keeping all the weight on your toes will make them tingle, for sure!

Yeah, I've tried shifting the balance towards my heels, using different shoes, thicker socks, etc.. but to no avail. Perhaps my feet are trying to tell me that I should only run when chased?
