Tough Guy on July 31st
Looking for ideas on how to train for this.
Tough Guy!
It happens in 2 months and it would help if I was a little fitter.
At the moment I run 10k in 55 mins, lift weights every other day, have a bad diet hence the 100kg at 5'8. (there is some muscle there honest. )
I'd love it if you guys/gals would pass on a bit of advice as to how I should go about training for this little nightmare I have let myself in for.
This is all part of my quest to lose some of those nasty kilos.
Thanks in advance.
Paul.

okay, i'm sorry, but (imo) you NEED to do MaxOT and follow one of cursor's diet plans - don't waste time dicking around trying to figure out the best system, best eating plan, etc, etc..
MaxOT or guerilla cardio 5 days a week at least 8 to 12 hours from the weights (and preferably on days off), MaxOT weights 5 days a week
GO FOR IT!

Cheers,
going to try that at the gym in the morning.
After the full on 16 minutes would you stop the cardio or is it ok to do some slower stuff?
Maybe I'm just thinking 'I've always done more' and might get over it once I've tried it.

stop at 16 minutes.
if you're capable of doing more, then you didn't work hard enough.

And don't forget to bring some heavy music. I prefer the HIIT-guerrilla option, but that's just me.
Congrats on the Champions League, btw (unless you're an Everton fan) :

Considering this quote came from the web site:

As a guide to how long it'll take you to get round a good rule of thumbs is to double you 10 mile run time.
|
I would bag doing Guerilla cardio and start working on your endurance. By the sounds of that warning you will be on this course for appoximately 4 hours or so. Hate to break the news to you but running for 16 minutes at a time won't do diddly to prepare you for that kind of sustained effort.
Edit: I would also add grip work and jump squats to help you overcome the obstacles you will face. This is a very challenging course. Good luck!!!

Yep, I'm an Everton fan. At least we made the top 4 this year
We are just waiting on the decision now to see if Liverpool get in at our expense. Why do they need to defend it next year let us have a go.

I thought about what you said as well and was a bit worried about dropping my cardio to 16 mins. Is it worth concentrating on the endurance and throwing a couple of guerilla cardios in now and again to help with fat loss?

Many long distance runners add wind sprints (1/8 to 1/4 mile sprints) one or two time per week in their training, so adding this type of training can be beneficial.
I would also add one long run (where you would be on the road for one to two hours) per week also.

Yeah, it's a bit pathetic. It looks like they're gonna have to qualify by playing in a play-off match against that little Welsh team, Total Network Solutions (nice town ). But I take my hat off to Everton. David Moyes definitely gets my vote for manager of the season.

Hi guys.
The training was going well until some ***$%$&/*** decided to set bombs off in London. I got sent down there to help with the recovery of 'items' and provide security. This has meant I've not trained for two weeks as there has been so much work to do. (still is) Hopefully now that I have been relieved I can get back to some training. The event is a week from now so I'll keep you posted.
Thanks for the advice and interest in the event.

Just want to say thanks to you all for the advice. Took part in the event and managed to finish it in 3hrs. 23 mins. placing 920th out of approx. 3000 entrants. Going back next year to do it again. (The cuts and bruises should have healed by then. )

Nice finish! Even better that you are going to make another go around next year.
