TreadClimber
The gym has a treadclimber machine that I absolutely love. The problem is that I think it may be to good to be true. I average between 12-14 cals per minute according to the machine. Could this be possible? All I know is that the thought of getting so many cals burned is a heck of a motivator to continue.

Does it make you work hard? Does it make you all sweaty? Does it make you breathe heavily? Does it make your heart go thumpity thump?
If so, then use it. Doesn't matter how many calories you burn. Hit it all out for 15-20 minutes, or just cruise on it for an hour....just do it.
That almost looks like an off color post when I look back at it. I really was referring to the tread climber.

.just do it.

Well, I guess that about says it all!
It does make me feel good! But it would be nice to know accurately how many cals to add to my food intake for the day.

Most machines are innaccurate. How would it know if you are a novice or an olympic athelete?
If you like it and perform the workout the numbers don't matter!!

most machines evaluate cals burnt as if you was a beginner.
So if yr new to it, its probely near correct.
But if you love it and can endure loads of time on it, just do it and burn the fat.
Use figures as a guide not a religion

Thank you for pointing that out. I can't believe how many people "judge" their workout efficacy based on what an inanimate object tells them they're burning.
The machines are wrong, even if you enter your weight. Don't watch the machine, just work.

The best thing is just cover up the display with a towel or something. The info on those machines can sometimes be WAY out of wack, or could be dead on - you just have no way of knowing lol.

It's like with the monitors. It irks me when I hear: Ooooh, I burned 450 calories according to the readout during my 15 minute treadmill warm up!! Why aren't I losing weight.
And that's one of the gentler comments I've heard.

Here is a point to show you how inaccurate machines can be.
Me and my younger brother cycle out everyday together for 25 miles and keep with each other all the way.
When we use indoor bikes his reads more cals than mine yet i cover more miles and pedal at a faster pace.
So just do yr time on bike or treadmill and know you have burnt cals and uped metobolic rate which will make the body burn more cals even when at rest

There really is no device to tell you how many calories you just burned during an exercise,...unless you subject yourself to some type of fitness in-patient facility and get hooked up to all kinds of gizmos capable of analyzing your output and intake of everything (from all over,....ahem). But seriously, it would have to be measured on a medical level,....you can't use a machine at a gym or any type of heart rate monitor.....
Unless I'm working with someone who is pregnant or post-cardiac sx., I'd love to just stomp on those suckers.
