Video medley of training

I haven't posted a video in some time so I decided to post this medley of "Plan B" training stuff, welcoming your comments and harsh criticisms.

Plyometic power-over pushups
I did these yesterday morning as part of a warm-up. I hadn't done them in a while and I was rusty. I used a 5kg medicine ball and had poor hand placement on the first rep and it haunted me for the remainder of my reps. The goal is to do them explosively and fast, get as much height as possible and to gracefully as possible switch hands on the ball, never having more than one hand on the ball at a time.

Hanging leg raises
I did these in the basement at home the same time I took some videos of me that appeared in the bodyweight-only training article (see Summer 2007 Discuss Fitness newsletter). I only managed 8 reps because I was pretty tired at this point and hadn't really spent alot of time becoming proficient with this exercise. I recall that I had done alot of isometric contractions prior and didn't have alot of gas in my tank.

Box jumps 36" x 5 reps
The final two video clips are from this morning, an easy early-morning training day as I only had 4 hours of sleep last night. I'm doing box jumps 36" high for 5 reps each. First time I taped myself and I see all kinds of room for improvement, particularly keeping my hands closer to by body and directing them upward rather than dangling as they are. 36" sure is high for me and I have the greatest respect for those who can go higher.

It is a lazy day at Discuss Fitness so enjoy. And feel free to give it to me with no fear that I will ban you.

And once you are done, post up like F-Mac and Firehawk have done recently. It makes things more interesting here.

Have a great day!

Thanks for sharing the videos Mr. P.

As always, I’m impressed.

Most impressive to me was the vertical jump.

I perform hanging hip curls as part of my weekly routine. Just this week I did 10 solid ones (knees to forehead ) with 2 lb weights on each leg.

I’ve never tried the ball push-ups but they look real hard

I’ll give the vertical jump a try on the beech next week and see if I can impress anyone. My wife and I are taking are 17 year old nephew and 16 year old niece to Maui for 7 days ( leaving in a few hours )

I should be able to get in plenty of active rest!

Have a good Thanksgiving

Dan

The hanging leg raises look like an amazing core workout!

When I see those vids, I have to wonder if you're lying about your age

Those are some seriously impressive moves Mr. P.

The hanging leg raises look mysteriously similar to KTE or knees-to -elbows that we do at crossfit. Great stuff.

Hi pierini,

Thanks that was fun watching.

You still have some spring in those old legs. Do they have any jumps at your summer track meets?

Keep them coming. It is a lot of fun to see what different DF members do for their training.

Hi Bob,

I believe they had the high jump which I would like to try. They may also have had the long jump. I think it would be unwise for me to try that one but I'd be curious what I could do.

They may have all-comer track meets in your part of the woods. I think you'd like them. Based on what I know from reading your training journals, I think you'd be a good 200m "man" (it's meters now Bob not yards).
