There are two factors when it comes to looking cut: how much BF do you have and how much muscle do you have?
If you have little BF, but also little muscle, you won't look cut even though you BF% is low. It may be assumed, by both you and others, that you must have too much BF when you really need to build more muscle.
Likewise, you can have muscle but too much
body fat covering them and that also leads to a person not looking cut. This is what everyone usually assumes and goes on a quest to lose BF.
The reason for this post: I've noticed in a lot of these forums people seem to automatically think that if the person doesn't have definition, they must have too much BF%. It could be they just don't have enough muscle to show the definition, even though their BF% is low.
This is why looking at a picture is NOT a good way to gauge someone's BF%. Do they have a low BF% and not enough muscle or do they really need to lose BF? You can't tell from a picture.
Just something to keep in mind.
