weight loss

I am 3 months post partum. I started exercising after my six week check-up. I have 70 lbs to lose. I am currently doing walking videos and weight lifting videos. I was losing 1-2 lbs a week. Just from last week it shows that I have gained 5 pounds. I have not been pigging out, I don't know if it is the weight lifting or not. I am so discouraged and I am thinking of stopping lifting weights. Should I lose more weight before I begin to lift weights again or should I continue to lift weights? I am surprised at the weight gain because I only use 5 lb weights for 45 min 2 days a week and walking videos 3miles 3 days a week. I am trying to cut my calories also, but if I cut it too much , it has an effect on my milk supply. Any info will greatly be appreciated. Thanks

To keep that weight off, I'd recommend a 3 part combination:

1) healthy eating
2) Cardio
3) workout

All three combined will make a powerful statement on your goals...you'll start to notice changes..just keep headstrong...you can do it!!!!

Make sure you maintain a daily multi-vitamin for your milk supply

Good morning.

I'll absolutely guaranty you that your weight gain is not a result of your recent weight lifting (unless you're holding that 5-lb dumbbell while standing on the scale ). Muscle is your friend ... fat is not. If you are gaining scale weight, then my guess is that you are eating too much, eating the wrong foods, or eating at the wrong times. Do you currently have a meal plan?

You speak of cutting your calories—that may not be a part of the problem. We should first evaluate what you ARE eating—both in terms of food types and volume.

First off a goal of 70lbs is going to take a long time to lose and you have to understand that first. Dot expect to lose that much weight in like a month or two. Just take a look at what your eating and go from there. Also remember that muscle weights more than fat.

IMPORTANT!! If you are breast feeding you MUST NOT embark on a weight loss program. I'm surprised your OB did not thoroughly discuss this with you.

Your exercise will have an effect on hormones released into your breast milk that the baby gets. Your body is still producing chemicals that will affect your joint laxity and weight loss, and your body's soul purpose now is to keep your baby nourished, your needs are second. Accept that.

AFTER you stop breast feeding is the only SAFE time to begin a formal weight loss program.

I'm not saying to stop exercising, but I AM suggesting you discuss this with your doctor,.... exercise, stay healthy, but manipulating your diet and losing weight and over-doing it .... your body is not chemically ready for this YET because the focus is to preserve the baby. Your actions may be counter productive.
