what's better???

hi, I've been reading the forum for a while now and have been going to gym for the last 2 months. Surprisingly for myself I absolutely LOVE it. Today on a treadmill I was wondering, what is better - higher resistance level and slower speed or vice versa? (either way I manage to keep my heartrate at around 160).
Another question, I constantly notice people in gym sweating really hard. I too sweat some but not nearly as much as those folks. Does it mean I don't try hard enough?

I'll take a wild guess. I know that cyclists try to maintain a high cadence in an effort to increase efficiency. Assuming that this concept would also apply to running on a treadmill, it would seem that the higher resistance level would be less efficent, and therefore, a better workout.

The second question is, I think, a little easier. Sweating is caused by a combination of factors with effort just being one of those. Clothing, body fat, metabolic rate, air temperature, level of fitness etc. are also important. Heart rate is a much better indicator of effort.

The first question depends on your goals.

The second, you don't need to worry about.

I think it would be better if you alternate, that way you get the benifits of both. Also it is nice to have some veriation.

ye doing the same routine can get a lil boring whereas little changes can make a big difference to your effort levels as you enjoi it a little more
