Where do I start?

Quick background:
Female, 48 y/o, 5' 6". Was 118 lbs., now 162 lbs. Never had to workout or diet before so I'm completely lost.

Living in RV for last 2 years. Since moving to L.A. one year ago, began putting on weight. Quit smoking April 12. Gained more weight and all muscle tone vanished. I'm at 162 lbs now. Recently started eating healthier/leaner. Gave up all refined sugar. Started exercising but don't know what I'm doing. I've done searches to find out how many reps/sets I should start with but I can't find anything. Can someone point me in the right direction? I'm interested in things like lunges, squats, crunches, pushups, etc. My exercises are limited by the space in my RV. I do have a set of ankle weights I can use for a little added resistance. Any help or suggestions are hugely appreciated!

Goals:
Lose FAT
Regain muscle tone/strength

Before you do anything else, though, you should probably see your doctor and get an all-around check-up. Please don't take offense, OK? but at your age and with your recent lifestyle pattern, it's a good idea to get an MD's go-ahead before starting a serious exercise program.

Best of luck to you.

Start out light and easy. Of you're really out of shape, it almost doesn't matter what you do, as long as you do something. Some sort of frequent aerobic exercise for fat loss. Some kind of weight exercise for muscles. Walking/jogging/biking/treadmill, etc for the aerobics. Push ups, sit ups of crunches, body weight squats, dips between two chairs, etc. for resistance exercises. This should do you well for a couple of months. Then you may find you need to increase the intensity a little.

If you're in an RV, I guess buying a lot of equipment isn't an option, right? You can go pretty far with some dumb bells, resistance bands, chairs, and a pull up bar... Pull ups are tough, but you can rest your feet on the ground and pull up as much body weight as you can. You can also rest the pull up bar across the backs of two chairs, lie on the floor beneath them, and do sort of an inverted row keeping your feet on the floor.

I really like your suggestions Etothepii and I think I'll buy a resistance band.

I don't think I'm getting much of an aerobic workout from riding my bike here. Heavy traffic and too many pedestrians. What do you think of a slide board?
Thanks

I have these Bands that I take with me when I travel. They actually give you a great workout. They can be done in a hotel room or the RV.

Lady C, I just checked out your before and after pics. I look a lot like your before pic only I think I have a bigger butt. LOL
I also checked out Curser's before and after. You guys give me encouragement. I should take some before and after pics as well. I don't know if I'll be brave enough to post the before pictures though.

I'll check out ebay for those bodylastic bands or something similar. Perfect for my limited space.:
