7 miles?

What do you live 3.5 miles from madame helga's house of pain?

I know to some of you real runners 7 miles is a realistic amount, but to me - 2.5 miles running was my very best effort - ever. I'm working towards 3 miles (or whatever 5K is).

I believe perinni, ajarvis, klinger and a few others here can actually do some real running too. I don't really know how much though.

Seem like you need to be hanging out at www.runnersworld.com.

I run 15-20 miles a week.

I try to run as much as possible. Summer usually only 9 - 15 miles. Fall/winter/spring more. With the weather getting cooler I want to start getting out everyday again. Other good running sites www.coolrunning.com www.runningroom.com

That sounds a bit like me, a little less on weekdays.

Mikey: Out of curiosity How's your strength training routine like? How much time do you spend on it?

I run almost every day with some cycling in there too. On the days I don't run I like to walk on a treadmill with a good incline for about 15 minute just to get my heart moving, plus, it's an easy way to lose a few calories without doing too much.

I play alot of soccer so that helps as well.

Hi KittyKat,

I strength train 3 times a week. Shoulders/arms, chest/back and legs. I do alot of cardio so I have to throw in some weights or I would probably waste away..lol. When I run outside during the summer, I do alot of body weight exercises.

Anyone here compete in races? I have 2 5k's and a half marathon.

Mike

How long do you spend each time? I'm just trying to get an idea on how much runners usually spend on strength training.

I'm planning to lose a triathalon in the spring. Other than that, I've never been a race voluntarily in my life - well just the one with my daughter to show her how her old, broke down dad could run her into the ground for an anti-smoking message.

I usually spend 45 mins on weights. When i do my body weight routine, i do it directly after my runs. I do three sets of pullups (front and back), situps, pushups (decline, wide, close and regular) and dips. I do all of these till failure each time.

A triatholon? Thats great. I always wanted to try one. Not much of a biker though so I probably never will.

Notice I said "planning to lose a triathalon". I will finish, but I'm a terrible runner, an ever worse biker, and swimming is absolute pure hell for me. To me it is just the personal "cool points" I will award myself for just finishing because two years ago I couldn't even walk 1/4 mile. As muscle building is my primary goal training for it to the level that it would take to be competetive is simply out of the question, but I will be able to train to the point I'll be able to finish.
