Why do my forearms hurt when I do bis?

Recently I have started to isolate my bicepts in order to acheive a better fisique and obviously to build bigger arms. However, my forearm muscles are starting to hurt when I try and isolate my bicepts.

One of the worst excercises for this is the sitting bicept curl. Is it possible that my forearms arent as strong as my bicepts and therefore are hurting due to muscle failure?

If your forearm muscles hurt, then clearly they are your weak link. Even though you don't use your wrist (normally) there is plenty of stress on your wrist extensors during a curl. It won't take long for them to catch up.

It depends how severe the pain is. One can develop a painful condition (similar to shin splints) in your forearms due to the use of a straight bar (barbell) when training biceps. This is very rare though. For this reason many use the E-Z bar and dumbells.

You might, on the other hand, be experiencing a proper 'pump' in the forearms because of increased blood flow to the muscles when training intensely. This is actually a good sign (it shows you are training the muscles properly). When this happens you might experience difficulty to grip properly.

The pain only comes when I perform the sitting EZ-bar curl and doesnt actually happen when I use the straight bar (standing).

I have also noticed that my muscles take longer to recover than my friend who I train with. Does this mean he is developing quicker than me or vice versa??

I have the same damn problem, I cannot even straight bar curl anymore. I know its not a lack of forarm strength because as a shot putter I have a lot of that. I dunno what is I mean when I used to straight bar curl it would hurt to the point I wanted to cry, but I kept going cause the pain would always dissapate pretty much as soon as a put the weight down, and at the time I only had a straight bar. I have the same problem with an ezbar but not the same extent and it really doesn't bother me with dumbbells.

All I can say is listen to your body. You should know when it is a 'good' sore, i.e. when you have pain because of a proper workout; and when your body's asking you to stop 'cause you are actually hurting it.

If the barbell's hurting your body, leave it. There's no point in injuring yourself if it could have been avoided.

I agree with fudomyo..
also if your forearms are cramping it could be because of your diet or supliment intake..If its your bones or muscle hurting most definatly loose the lift or loose some weight..
I love isolating my bicepts, and my forearms cramp when I work them..but they are so tight and and swolen I actually love it..
Thats the burn we yearn for!!!!!!!!

It could be that you are just feeling the insertions of your biceps...
