why running sucks

patellar chondromalacia ("runner's knee")
strained tibialis anterior muscles ("shin splints")
tibial stress fractures
twisted ankles
metatarsal fractures
plantar fasciitis
ACL and other ligament injuries
colitis/diarrhea ("runner's trots")
blisters
dead toenails/toenails falling off
pulled muscles
the great never-ending quest to find "the right shoe"
that skeletal runner's physique

Suffering all those at the same time must be a right pain.

Anything done incorrectly sucks. Injury is the price you pay for making mistakes.

Being able to walk keeps you one step away from living in a wheelchair. Running keeps you miles away.

Bovine scatology.

Running no doubt has its benefits. But that's not my point. I know plenty of folks (myself included) who "do everything right", and still get more serious injuries from running, more frequently, than any other exercise.

Moreover, it does not at all follow that if "walking keeps you one step away from living in a wheelchair," that "running keeps you miles away". It's entirely conceivable, for example, that a runner might trip and suffer a permanently debilitating bone break, whereas a non-runner might walk happily and safely the rest of his life, completely injury-free. In such a case, your claim would be utterly refuted.

Well, I think you get injured alot cuz your tendons and legaments and stuff aren't strong enough. I think strength training will get your injury risk way down. and of course, techneque is very important tooo. THanks!

At my size, running would make me end up in a wheel chair . Running is for light people .

If you don't like it, it must be good for you.

For anyone who thinks they are too old or heavy to run, you should read the following article published in the New York Times on February 11, 2002 ... five months after the World Trade Center attack:

“For 5 Officers, Apparent Last Heroic Act” http://select.nytimes.com/gst/abstra...AB0894DA404482

Unfortunately, the article is archived and requires payment to read. However, presenting only the following two paragraphs from the article would be considered “Fair Use” under the Copyright Act:
Quote:
The remains of the officers were found in a spot that had once been the lobby of 1 World Trade Center, the north tower and the second to collapse. That means it is almost certain that the officers knew the south tower had already fallen and that they had been ordered to evacuate.

But right next to where the officers' bodies were discovered, the recovery crews found another victim: an obese woman who was still strapped into a rescue chair the officers had apparently been using to try to get her out.
One of the responsibilities of adulthood is being able to take care of yourself. For me, that means being fit enough to save your own butt in an emergency. It's unforgivable to let yourself waste away to the point where you jeopardize the lives of others who feel obligated to save you.
