Working out boost immune system?

I have been working out seriously since last summer and I got sick over the weekend and it messsed up my schedule and that was when I started to think that that was the first time I had been sick since I started working out. So does anyone know if working out and exercises boosts you immune system?

i'm sure regular exercise makes the body stronger and if you take Vit C and lead a healthy diet then yes i'm sure you will be less prone to colds etc...

I heard or read somewhere (maybe thru my aerobics training) that by increasing the core body temperature (which you do everytime you workout) you are helping your body fight off the stuff that attacks your immune system. I'm usually good for about 1-2 colds a year regardless and I work out all the time. Maybe someone has something to add to this.

Workout regularly, supplement with glutamine, and a one-a-day vitamin. The only thing that could cause the onset of a cold is over-training...so be careful not to over do it!

I disagree strongly with this. The only thing that can cause the onset of a cold is a virus and your immune system being overwhelmed by it.

The biggest thing that lowers your immune system's guard is stress... and that can be caused by a ton of different things, including but definitely not limited to overtraining.

And sometimes, as with anything else, **** just happens and you get a big initial dose of virus from someone. (Ask the parents of small children just in school, also known as plague vectors.) The dance between pathogens and hosts is chaotic, and only controllable up to a certain point.

while overtraining cannot cause any sort of illness (cold, etc) it can weaker your immune system enough to make u more suseptable to contraction of one.

centrum and one-a-day really arent that good. they might do fine for the avg. joe - they dont totally suck or ne thing - but u should go to www.fitsavers.com and pick up one from there.
