Working out when sick

Hi,

I haven't been feeling well since last week (sinus/cold) so I took some time off from the gym b/c my energy levels were low. My body feels tired and fatigued and my sinuses are a little sore. The last time I worked out was Tuesday p.m. I wanted to work out yesterday but I was still feeling weak so I didn't go. I might push myself to go to the gym today but I'm wondering if it's a good idea. I'm trying to be realistic about it and give myself more time to feel better. I had a workout planned for today (30 minute jog on treadmill and resistance training) but I think that this might be too much especially since I haven't been feeling well. Should I push myself to workout, even if I don't do the planned workout and walk instead or should I just wait? I thought that if I pushed myself then the exercise might help but it might also have the opposite effect.
Thanks.

Joanne,

If the cold is above the neck only, and not in the chest--work-out at a moderate pace. I would limit the duration to 30 minutes

You will not only feel better when finished, but will speed up the process of eliminating the cold.

But by no means, if the cold is in the chest, wait until it goes away before proceeding to train

My 2 cents

Dan

Thanks for you're responses Rufiedodg and Cursor. I did end up going to the gym because I had been at home for the past few days and feeling like I needed a change of scenery. I walked on the treadmill and I was okay but drinking ALOT of water - more than usual and feeling a little dizzy at times so I didn't stay on too long. I just wanted to move a little. I used the sauna at the gym, and took a nice hot shower which was very relaxing.

I hope to have my energy back by this week and to be back into my regular routine soon. I miss it. I also can't wait for Spring! I am getting tired of the winter weather and all the blahs that come along with it.

Thanks.
Joanne
