I would definitely not weight train twice a day unless you want to overtrain your muscles.

Try this - lift once a day and then do a 1-mile run or some high-intensity cardio once a day.

You will fry your CNS if you lift 12 times a week, my man. I'm sure there are some who can handle it -- and even excel at it -- but not many.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with two workouts per day ... provided they are intelligently defined (and "no", you don't have to be on "roids" to benefit). As a matter of fact, the extra growth hormone production will do you good. Again, balance and volume is key.

Cursor - how would you define a balance of volume? I just don't see much benefit in say, going hard twice a day.

The only serious twice-a-day splits I have seen are by professional lifters -- the 300-pound monsters (no offense intended; I'm a little jealous ) in the muscle magazines.

I suppose you could split a full-body workout in half and get OK results, but it seems like a ticket to burnout, being in the gym 12 times a week.

He also gave up smoking and stopped riding his road bike for 6 months. He had a nutritionalist preparing his meals for him.

IMO, Cursors definition of balance is listening or reading your body. If you take in the proper amount of cals for 2 work outs and your not to soar or overworking youself then hit it twice per day.

Even before "listening to your body", there's an "intelligent balance" that you can implement into your lifting plan, if you really want to have two lifting sessions in a day. Hitting the same muscle group multiple times per day is not the idea. By smartly rotating through muscle groups (and varying the load), ensuring adequate rest for each group before restimulation, you can maximize growth. This makes sense for ANY plan (twice-a-day or otherwise). If you're lifting at max all the time, then twice a day just isn't going to be beneficial. Alternatively, if you're smartly periodizing, then there's real promise. There's brute training ... and then there's smart training.

I'm with cursor on this one. Even for BBers, working out twice a day could be applicable. The people you see working out twice (or more) a day are OLers. Bulgarians for example, train almost all day (with breaks), but they worked up to that work load.

Tom Jane.

The thing is though, that was his job! He is not only able to afford whatever trainer, nutritionist, etc, he needs, he could workout, then pretty much do whatever he wanted (sleep, play video games, read, etc) for the rest of the day, then workout again.

It's immeasurable easier to change the look of your body when you have virtually unlimited resources in the forms of time and money.

lifting twice a day

I lift twice a day and one muscle group a day. I go with power in the morning and endurance at night. I also run stairs in the morning and 2 or 3 miles at night. 2 day break after every 5. Is this smart? Im doing this to get in serious shape for my fall semester and after that I'll let off a little.
