Wrestler- New Cardio Workout

Here's a question.
My typical workout consists of running two miles then lifting weights. This seems to work for me cause I don't get tired during my wrestling matches at all. Recently I got sick and couldn't do much for a whole week - so now my endurance is really shot. Looking back on my workout, I find that the running keeps me from lifting what I should. So now I am swithing to days devoted to cardio and days for weights. I have a plethora of weight workouts that i can do, but I've never had cardio workouts that where their own program themselves (they where always part of my workout, just not THE workout).
I'm considering running my usual two miles, then hopping on a cycle for 40 minutes.

So what do you do on cardio days/for cardio workouts?

It's usually best to keep the weight training and cardio as far away as possible (either on seperate days or eight hours apart during the same day). However I also believe there is no reason you can't do cardio following a weight workout if it's short and sweet (HIIT). You never want to do cardio before your weight workout like you were doing before for the exact reason you stated--it takes away from your weight training.

Also try and switch up your cardio routine. Running is nice but I'm sure you can find lots of other forms to keep your cardio fresh and challenging. Try the rowing machine, sprints, rope jumping, etc.

Good luck!

My opinion is that you should switch it up. Don't feel like you have to do long cardio workouts just because they are on their own day. You should add some shorter, more intense sessions (maybe some invervals), IMO.
