Yoga for recovery

Morning ladies and gents! and a happy new year one and all!!

The coming year for me holds significant amounts of physical training to regain some lost skills and learn some new ones (as well as the obligatory drive to keep fit of course). Effectively what this means is I'll be training twice a day 4-5 days a week (thinks CrossFit in the AM and martial arts in the PM) and resting as hard as I can the other 2-3 days.

As part of my rest/recovery plan (which basically consists of sleeping as much as I can and eating stupid amounts of food ) I'm toying with the idea of taking a Yoga class as a bit of active recovery.

Does anyone here have any experience with this?

There are numerous schools around me but I'm particularly drawn to the Bikram Yoga concepts of heated rooms and such; I think the sauna effect could have some good recovery benefits.

Anyone more educated than me in the area care to comment on Bikram as a yoga style for what I'm trying to achieve?

All thoughts greatly appreciated.

Yoga is hard, but it does make your body feel good.

I too am thinking of beginning a yoga class, mainly because I am horribly inflexible and do not stretch enough.

It is certainly confusing though : there are like a bazillion different yoga classes!

I will be taking one that comes free in my gym, and unfortunately i don't think they have the bikram style available. It sounds like it would be nice though.

If you take a class, keep us posted pseudonym! I am interested to hear what it is like.

I was wondering the same thing about yoga so I'm glad you posted this. Yoga to me seems very boring to do and not my thing but I've been thinking about adding in a session once a week to see if it helps. I'm looking forward to hearing from the yoga users out there but I don't think there are too many out there in this forum lol.

I bought a "beginners" yoga DVD about 2 years to improve my flexibility. I have to give it up to anyone out there who can do yoga even half way decently. I was able to follow along with the video for maybe 10 minutes before the movements became way too advanced. I'd be very interested in your yoga exploits, psuedonym. Keep us posted.

I'll be sure to keep ya'll informed ; I'm looking to go in for a session at the Bikram Yoga centre near me next Friday after my first week back in training. Lord knows I'm gonna be sore and exhausted so I think it'll be a good test of Yoga's recovery v overtraining potential (at least Bikram yoga anyway).

Will post up here and let yas all know how I go.
