I think the lady simply couldn't take that someone eventually told her the truth. Instead of facing the problem, she tries to hide away from the problem. Not that's gonna help her, I just pity the doctor. Seems to me like sueing a modelling agency for not hiring you because "that means I'm ugly".

Anyway, I believe the US mentality and sometimes egoistic perception of life (for some, no offense) leads to this kind of problems.

I wonder if insurance companies could give you some bonuses for a helthy weight. I was also thinking about putting some colored signs on food... When it has a green, it's fine, yellow - not bad, orange - from time to time, red - you better not eat this... I guess it could have impact on fat people (if you don't mind being fat, it won't... also slender people could think it's stupid... but when you're trying to fight it... it's like my mother, when she goes shopping with me, she gives half the things she'd buy back on the shelf)

Good grief. Obesity costs the healthcare system how much money every year, and the doctors are suppose to not tell their patients to lose weight? That is pretty ridiculous and I can't believe the board is actually taking the complaint seriously. They should have sent the woman's letter back.

The doctor shouldn't have even apologized. I guess she's not going to change because if you won't even listen to a doctor tell you that your weight is going to kill you then nothing will change your mind.

good gods, now doctors can't do their jobs if they're not politically correct about it!???

okay, i could understand if it was the doctor that used to practice here: no matter what was wrong, her answer to everything was "lose weight - you'll feel better". i mean, "doctor, i think something flew in my eye!" - "lose weight, you'll feel better".

the last time i saw her, i had my kids in. there was a bowl of candy on the nurse's station, it being near hallowe'en. caiti, my younger, plump daughter, 11 yrs old at the time, asked me if she could have one. i said "better ask the nurse". the nurse wasn't around, so caiti asked the doctor. you know what that bitch did? looked caiti up and down and said "you? no." then she looked at "stick-girl" (my older daughter) and said "you? take two."

by the time i was done with her, not only did she have to give caiti a written letter of apology, but she also had to take sensitivity training. her hurtful comment affected caiti badly - she was so upset about being fat that she became too scared to eat something in case it made her more fat then she'd go on hunger binges. it took her *forever* to get over it and become more the happy, cheerful little sprite she was before.

Candy has no place in a doctor's office any time of the year.

I had a very good dentist (until he retired) that used to give out mini toothbrushes and toothpaste to kids on halloween. He would say about a dentist giving candy, "That's like a doctor giving an alcoholic a bottle of whiskey".

My current dentist gives out sugarless gum at halloween

I respected that man. He is one of the professionals who walked the talk not like the all the smokers and overweight child-less women who have been GP's to me and my family. You can't find any other type with appointments available.

I had a dentist in Baton Rouge that, no lie, gave out Otis Spunkenmeyer cookies after getting your teeth cleaned.

And you continued going there.... why?

3Ns, that doctor incident you described sounds horrendous. That's just unbelievable. I hope you made a fuss and a half about it. Actually, I don't doubt you did!

/shaking my head in as utterly bemused a fashion as I can manage.

what a joke, if I have to spend any of my tax dollars on a moron like that when their body packs up on them I want a refund (they don't give organ transplants to people like that do they ? I'd hate to think my donation was wasted on someone as pathetic as that woman).

why am I angry about this ? the silly woman will be dead soon enough, I think it is about not taking responsibility for ones-self, never did have much time for that.

EDIT: bwahahahaha anyone watch the video ? I got an ad for Wendy's before it started, hahahaha.

You know, if I ever decide to become a shrink I think I'll pioneer the use of news stories as a diagnostic/treatment tool.

I always have to laugh when stories like this are posted. Nobody knows what this guy said but everybody seems pretty convinced (and some fairly vehemently so) that it was appropriate and that strikes me as somewhat revealing.

Sort of like the information superhighway version of a Rorschach...

i think it's because i (for one) am getting pretty damned sick of everybody having to be all PC all the time.

i fix computers and i'm damned good at it. but there comes a point when i have to say "listen: you keep bringing the thing back for the same reason - viruses. STOP DOWNLOADING PORN AND WAREZ!" instead of "you need to be careful which sites you visit", etc.

I understand that. I just find it interesting that you're so convinced this is one of those cases when you know nothing about these people or what was said.

Hence the comparison to formless blobs of ink...

Let me get this straight....an overweight woman is pissed because a doctor was just telling her the truth about her needing to lose some weight??OMG! What's next...doctors getting sued because they tell a patient, "hey, you have inoperable cancer so you're going to die."?? So...cancer patient's feelings are hurt now. Gotta sue the doctor because he was insensitive so I can make everyone in my family independently wealthy! I have come to the conclusion in my life that most people are really stupid and should not be allowed to breed. Try working in the retail business as I have done and you meet all kinds of stupidity!!

Wow...I feel a little better.

while I appreciate the sentiment (and see where you're coming from) did you watch the video attached to that link ?

The doc spells out clearly what he said, and it was harsh and probably uncalled for, but I'll be damned if it aint the truth.

the whole situation is a joke IMO.

Exact words or not..either way I'd have been harsher in his position.
