Most of the big hollywood blockbusters this summer look bad. I had pretty low expectations for Troy and they still managed to duck under them.
Shrek 2 looks good, I'll probably end up seeing that shortly. I've been waiting years for an Aliens vs. Predator movie, so I'm hoping they don't bungle it.
Other than that, there's nothing I'm really looking forward to this summer. Spiderman looks like another alright, but not great installment to the franchise. Catwoman looks like Halle-Berry's boobies. The king Arthur movie looks silly, Gwyenhwyfar with a bow?
Hmm, none of the movies I've mentioned in this post are based on a new original story...

Going to the movies is just social stuff, unless its something I've really been waiting for its usually just a night to hang out w/ the friends, doesn't always matter what we're going to see. I did want to see Kill Bill 2 but I'll just wait for it to be out on DVD.

Troy sucked. Brad Pitt seems to have lost what mediocre acting talent he had, Orlando Bloom needs to be shot, and Eric Bana was only so-so. For 200 mil, you think they could of hired a better cinematographer or artistic director. Gladiator looked FAR better visually than this ever did, and I wasn't captivated by anything whatsoever.
Shreak (not a typo) 2 was okay, but it's mostly for small children despite what anyone says, and I pretty much wasted 8 bucks to see what they can do with computer animation. Chee-ball.
Alien Vs. Predator, surprisingly, looks pretty good. A lot of these vs. movies have such stupid concepts and storylines, but the entertainment value will suit anyone just fine.
The Spiderman 2 script should have been dumped in the wastebasket as soon as the title was read. It was popular, so lo and behold they're making a sequel. The first one was okay, but I'll be damned if I have to see Kirsten Dunst as the fat and piggish Mary Jane or Toby-the-geek-Maguire put on Spidey's costume.
Catwoman...an absolute joke. It should be buried in kitty litter and I hope Halle Berry has nine lives because she should be shot by any means ncessary.
And...
King Arthur looks kind of good, but the girl from "Pirates of the Carribean" girl is simply retarded (no I'm not making that up, she has mental deficiencies and a caretaker). The guy from the bmw films is in this as well.

Troy is the only one I've seen so far. It's a decent movie but I definitely get as into it as I was hoping. From what I've heard, the rest of the movies are going to be decent but I doubt any of them will be a blockbuster.
As long as you don't expect the movies to be blockbusters, you won't be disappointed.

Actually, Keira Knightly (I assume that's who you are talking about) is going to Yale next year, so I can't imagine how mentally retarded she can actually be. Do you have a link to an article that talks about this? Just curious.

It's for real. I forget the release date, but it was towards the end of summer I think.
Freddy and Jason were making craptacular movies on their own, you could only expect their union to be a celebration of craptacularness. Hopefully AvP won't be idiotic. They have plenty of entertaining background to go from, namely all the Dark Horse comics Aliens vs Predator series that have been around for years, but I won't get my hopes up.

People do not realize that this comes the Dark Horse Comics that came out in the EARLY 90's! They are very dark and very good and the movie is shaping up to be the same.

Oh and I forget to address this question at hand. I will only address some movies currently playing as I could go on for a LONG time about upcomming movies as that is my secondary passion =).
Shrek 2 - Excellent movie. In my and most other people I have talked to opinion it is superiour to the first. It has quite a few more adult jokes and many MANY inside references to other movies (Far more than the first)
Day After Tommorrow - This movie is your sterotypical disaster flick (From Roland Emmerich of Independance Day). This movie does touch on a number of enviromental issues and has some subtle jabs at our current government, but it is nothing spectacular
Troy - It is another of your sterotypical peroid movies like Gladiator. It is but one a few that are on the way. This is a decent movie as a action fest, but it doesn't live up to the hype.
Van Helsing - Flat out sucks. It is pretty much a clone to Underworld just set in a period peice. If you enjoyed underworld you will probably enjoy this, but otherwise wait for the DVD
Man on Fire - This movie exceeded most peoples (Myself included) expectations, but it is a bit on the melodramatic side. It is a decent revenge flick though and has some great moments in it. Worth checking out
Soul Plane - Ummm No
There are many great movies on the horizon though (Harry Potter this week and Chronicles of Riddick on the 11th) so dont take the current crop too seriously =)

Early reviews state that it is actually one of the best Sci-Fi movies in a long time =)
