Audio/Video Editing Software

I figured this would be the most appropriate place for this...

First of all, does anyone know of any good audio editing software? I only need basic features (cutting mostly) but most importantly I need to be able to save the audio file in high quality format. I have MP3 codecs, but I need to be able to edit the output bitrate, instead of default 128kbps which is crap.

Second, I also am looking for a good AVI editor. My digital camera takes videos in AVI and I'd like to rotate some videos, as well as compress them and even take audio tracks out of some.

Freeware software would be best. None of this is fancy work. Inexpensive programs are acceptable as well if you know of them. Nothing like Adobe Premiere lol that's way too much money. Warez is out of the question, too.

Not my area of expertise. Go to Altered Egos :: Index and tell them that an old bum that hangs around there sometimes sent you. There are some real experts in anything you may wish to do there and they can help you best.

And if it's free or cheap...they know all about it.

I use mixmeister for audio, it is great to make my own workout mix. When you are done you can export the file to mp3 format so the size will be much more compact.

For videos, Adobe Premiere . Both programmes are quite user friendly.

urmaniac...mixmesiter looks too expensive, and I know Adobe Premiere is amazing, but also very pricey.

PoorBoyTek...I'll check those out, I'm not as familiar with them.
