Firefly was a tv series that was cancelled in the first season (13 episodes including pilot). BIG mistake on Fox's part. Its a terrific show.
Fox jerked the show around, didnt show the 2 hr pilot, didnt show the episodes in sequence - just like they did with Family Guy. Jackasses.
Skeptical ? 2 years after the dvds were released, its still currently the 8th largest selling dvd on amazon.com for the current week:

The first one - Serenity is going to be released september 30
As is standard with Joss, the show cannot be classified easily. Its set into the future on a ship, but there are no aliens, no "warp drives"no "beam me up", its just set into the future with present day problems. There are standard guns, the ship has a moving engine etc. Its 10% scifi, 10% western 5% medical and 75% drama+adventure.
Music is very good, a blend of different styles. The cast is racially diverse.
One of the lead ladies was told to GAIN 20 lbs when she was cast, apparently didnt like her supermodel skinny. Terrific show.
Stoopid stoopid people at FOX. The dvds have made them a TON of money, and show was just getting started. I ordered the DVD at deepdiscountdvd's sale recently - it was so popular they ran out of copies in that week.
(And no they cant renew the show, universal now has the movie rights, so there are some legal issues).
