Cover songs, remakes, sampling

Has anyone noticed a lot of artists doing cover songs and heavy sampling from other songs??

Limp Bizkit remake the Who song
Nelly and JT - sampling the AC/DC song
Now doubt - Its my life
Sheryl Crow -
There is even a cover of the White Stripes song, didn't that song just come out??

Anyhow, I love these songs I am not complaining. I REALLY love that Nelly/JT song . . because I love AC/DC.

And a few years back Jessica Simpson sampled a John Cougar Mellencamp song, it was pretty good! I am in a little dispute over that one. This girl says its a remake of a Janet Jackson song. and I say its not, Jessica S. just sampled a song from JCM. So now I am looking on the net . . just to prove her wrong. Don't you just hate that . . when you know you are right!

Concord Dawn have just released a Drum n Bass remix of Slayer's 'Raining Blood'.

As for samples, I've just seen Taxi Driver for the first time, and realised that Pantera used samples of the end shooting scenes for the intro/outro to 'The Badge', which featured on The Crow soundtrack. :

too bad 95% of them suck. the problem is, this is the first generation where rock musicians are so untalented and uncreative that they have to look to the past for good music.

im seeing them next monday...its going to be awsome.

back on topic.

i dont mind when the song is done in a different way. but when the copy it word for word, sound for sound, its just pointless.

I think remakes are an important part of music sometimes songs are freakin so much better the second time around, but i would like to see someone with some creativity coming up with new songs... most new songs now are generic = /

I loved Eminem's sampling of Dido's Thank You in his song Stan. Awesome.

Robert Van Winkle's sampling of Queen & David Bowie's "Under Pressure" was pretty cool...
